Low Cost 3D
By Beyond Twilight Reviews
I have owned this television for about 2 weeks now. It is a nice looking TV and is very thin. The screen has a bezel around it which is not quite as nice as some LG TV's which are like one sheet of glass. It is still very sleek though. This TV uses Passive 3D - or Cinema 3D as LG are calling it and this set comes with 7 pairs of passive 3D glasses- exactly the same type you get at the cinema. The passive glasses are more comfortable and a lot cheaper to replace than the active shutter glasses that you need for some 3D televisions. This TV does have a usb port for viewing films and photos and listening to music but it does not have internet connectivity.I have seen various debates on the internet over whether passive 3D is as good as active 3D. I'm no expert, but having owned this TV for a couple of weeks and having watched various Sky 3D content and several 3D films I cannot see any problems with the 3D at all. You do need to be watching it from the same height as your head- or on a bracket that angles the TV down, as if you are looking up or down by a couple of feet on the 3D picture it starts to distort slightly and you can see the lines on the screen. Other than that I have had absolutely no issues with crosstalk, ghosting or any of the other problems you see sometimes with 3D.I have mine on a stand and it it is roughly head height when sat on my couch or a chair. The kids have watched it lying down and not seen much difference. I have only seen an issue when standing up or close up to the screen- about a metre and this was only when trying to find out at what point there might be a problem. I don't know about you, but I don't normally tend to watch TV whilst standing up or stick my face right up to it!There is much debate over 'Full HD 3D' and claims that passive 3D TV's like this don't show full HD 3D, just half the resolution. To be perfectly honest it's not that I don't believe the science behind it that proves this, who am I to disagree with the experts - but I honestly cannot see the difference. Nor can any of my family or friends who have watched the TV with me. The picture, in 3D or otherwise is spectacular and the sound is fine. The 2D picture is also great on HD or standard definition and you can convert 2D to 3D with good results although I don't tend to bother. There are plenty of settings on the TV to adjust the picture and Trumotion settings. I set mine to the preset 'Cinema' which works well for me.The TV has 3 HDMI in connections so I can have the Sky box, Xbox and Bluray player set up. I have also played 3D content from an external hard drive via the usb port and this worked perfectly. For the cost this is an excellent TV, particularly good for families because of the number of glasses with the set and also how cheap they are to replace (£1 at my local cinema per pair). If you are looking to update your TV but are unsure about 3D I would say this is a great choice for an all round TV that has 3D capabilities.

AMAZING!

I'm reviewing this without owning - but my father does. I've been umm-ing and ahh-ing about active vs passive for a year now, and having seen them both at work i have to say its a no-brainer. A friend of mine had to have a 3DTV and with very little research, he went and bought a Samsung active, which was very nice for me as I got to go and roadtest it for free. Aside from the glasses being clunky and a bit over-complicated (are these on or off?) the 3D image showed a little depth but nothing like you see at the flix. Not so with the LG, this had depth, and in ya face screen-popping.As someone else said, the impression we're given is that passive displays are half-resolution, but to me it was HD.And the picture in general, without 3D was quite possibly the best i've seen on any tv.If you just want a fantastic HD TV, i'd buy this. If you want a fantastic HD 3DTV, i'd buy this. Infact, i am buying this as soon as i get a few quid!

AWESOME! Just AWESOME!!

Ive gotta say i was really unsure about 3D TV's in household environment, especially the Active Shutter ones. When the Passive 3D sets from LG were announced i thought it was a good idea but i was really unsure as to the overall quality the consumer would be getting for the price.LG TV's have been getting really good in terms of price for quality in recent years, the 42LH3000 which i previously owned before this TV i thought the quality was outstanding! - In all areas, after viewing this TV - it kicks the crap out of the LH3000!Picture Quality2D amazing!!! the quality of the picture from HD content is outstanding, even with the 100hz motion its amazing quality. The colours are fantastic and the picture is incredibly sharp. Now for the 3D - its brilliant i mean truly outstanding quality in a lot of ways i would agree with people that it is better than the cinema experience the only downfall of it that i have found is that watching it from high angles it doesn't work as well. The next thing i will try is gaming on the TV especially with the 3D turned on.2D-3D ConversionThe TV does support the method of converting regular 2D sources to 3D - i watched some Star Wars in 3D and it did do a good job. Its a good feature but not always effective.SoundI wasn't greatly impressed at first but after some minor tweaks in the settings it is better than it was - i will recommend that you turn on the surround sound setting thingy in the menu makes it much better.Energy Saving FeatureTURN IT OFF, i know its a good feature to have for people if they want to help the environment but i will say if you want to experience blu-rays properly then turn it off!Overall an amazing product with amazing features, but there are 2 reasons why i am only giving this 4 Stars.1 - The sound (as mentioned above)2 - What in gods name was wrong with amazon shipping it via DPD?! DPD sucks, my parcel got sent to the wrong carrier and was delayed until today (Monday 24th October) instead of Friday 21st October and i paid for Next Day Delivery.....not impressed. And just a small thing Amazon please stop changing the price of products from one day to the next its very annoying. - Still cheapest on the Internet tho.If your wanting an upgrade from either an LCD or a Plasma Tv and want the 3D technology i would HIGHLY recommend this TV, the quality is amazing and for the price its well worth it! BUY IT
