Excellent unit!!!! Good price for features!!!

Hi,I have this unit from few days and have to say it is really great. First, excellent service from amazon and caraudiosecurityuk. Delivered quick and well packed. Instalation very easy, as i have MPV(VW Sharan) i had ISO connector and this unit have also ISO so that was piece of cake. Bluetooth cable long enough to mount on pillar or close to steering wheel - no problem. All connections clearly described and well made. So instalation nice and smooth, ahh, if you want watch DVD while driving(just passengers - not DRIVER!!!) than you have to connect parking brake cable to earth. Bluetooth-great. My nokia N8 connecting straight when radio is on. Quality is good. Operating unit as well(phone book, last calls etc.) Sound quality from disc or usb, hmmm mind blowing!!! Much better than my old VW unit(gamma). Very clear sound, nice stereo effect and radio reception just excellent(no noise-very clear). Reading quick wheather is mp3 or DVD. Touch panel is very clear, nice colors-match all preferences. Screen very bright, detailed, specially when watching DVD. And best of all is detachable panel, not many units have that... Good price for all features. Just missing sat nav. But most smart phones got that and they much better upgrated than car radio units(even latest one) so if you dont really need that. So far very pleased. If you looking for double din, get this one, you won't be desapointed.

Superlative unit, with intuitive/easy setup.

I'm not a huge techie, so will keep this review to a end-users POV. You do have to make sure your car has a full 'double-din' slot for fitting, which mine had. However, the metal fitting cage is actually larger than this by about 2-3mm, due to deliberate ventilation space created above and below the unit by the cage. This meant I had to judicially 'carve' some plastic on my fascia to fit it, but once done fitting and setup was easy.Radio setup is easy;- both FM and AM. Unusually for me the mw/lw stations were presented on the same bandwith selection memory page. Tune a station and press and hold the memory spot and it's saved. In FM you get a 6 station listing on screen (3 pages = 18 stations), and you choose by touching the screen. MW/LW with no RDS means you just get a listing of station frequencies (1 page = 6 stations).Touchscreen;- is easy and intuitive to use, and no calibration of position was needed. An 'AV Menu' button resides permanently in the bottom left corner, and one touch of this gives you a screen with 8 or so icons, allowing you to easily select the source you want to use. Alternatively you can use the dedicated 'src' button on the far left to cycle through differing sources. Top right has a 'settings' button which takes you to a tabbed screen allowing you to customise your experience, with colours, text colours, lighting, and a new home screen graphic if you want. Permanently displayed on the left when playing a music source is a little graph like icon which quickly takes you to a sound settings page, where you can alter, fade, stereo, EQ settings and more.Video;- tested briefly, as I've not had the opportunity to watch a whole film, but quality seems good when reading from a DVD. Menu selection is a little tricky from the disk, but I expect I'll get the hang of it eventually. Legal note - you shouldn't watch video whilst driving obviously, and the unit has a handbrake switch sensor wire to help you with that. But do a google search and/or look at other reviews and it's easy enough to finagle this requirement. Video from a USB stick seems to be somewhat stuttery, and doesn't play that smoothly, so could be that this unit only has usb 1-1 on it, as usb2 is more than fast enough to play dvds from.Update (05/08/2012)- it seems that USB video playback is not fully optimised, and only playback of video files from disk works fully.Disk playback;- plays cd's, cd-r's, dvd's, and dvd-r's no problemo. When playing back music mp3's full tag info is displayed, track title, artiste, and album details if tagged. If album cover art is present, then that's displayed too. A great touch as far as I am concerned. A full dvd of mp3's will keep you happy for months. Leave a disk full of mp3's in the drive, and when you move away from that source, whether it's to answer a phone call, listen to the radio, or use the usb function, then move back to disk - and it remembers where you last got to on the disk, and plays from there onwards.Update (05/08/2012)- the random and repeat track features only work fully for audio-cd's. These features do not work with mp3 based collections on either USB sticks or disks. The only bit that works is the 'repeat folder' option.Sound;- quality from the amp is the best I've had over my generic vauxhall speakers. You'd have to go a long way to beat it. 'Nuff said.Bluetooth;- after a few minutes setting this up, my phone now automatically pairs with the unit whenever I'm in the car and the unit is on. The external microphone can be placed wherever is best for the individual user. Mic' gain can be adjusted easily, so you're caller can easily here you, and they are clearly heard back over the car speakers. The unit can also store several phone numbers on itself, so you can have your most used numbers immediately available to ring via the unit instead of using your phone. Overall, the best implementation of 'hands-free' bluetooth I've ever come across so far. Beats having an earpiece any day.Update (05/08/2012)- there are known issues with microphone sensitivity with some 'smart phones', such that noise suppression circuits on both your phone and the JVC unit (via bluetooth) can lead to bad echoing noises on the phone call for whomever is trying to call you. This has happened for me to such an extent that callers ring off because they can't make out a word I'm saying. There is a 'dealer only' fix available, so I would try different microphones with the JVC unit first.External connectivity;- You can have a rear view camera input, which I use via a camera installed on a number plate light, and this feature is easily selectable via the main AV icon menu. It can also be automatically selected, by connecting a small signal cable to your reverse gear switch on the gearbox lever(s). Integral RCA composite connectors on the rear allow for external screens to be connected, so could potentially keep the kiddies in the rear pre-occupied. Though how this ties in with the 'handbrake' issue I'm not sure, since it's not a feature I'm ever likely to use. Can also be hooked up with steering wheel remote controls for ease of use.Update (05/08/2012)- I have been unable to get this remote steering wheel control function working in my Vauxhall after several attempts, so although not a deal breaker, it's not a good point.Security;- The face plate unit comes off for remote storage, making this less of a security risk for car thiefs. A unique feature, I believe, to JVC double din units. Need I say more?Originally I gave this unit 5 out of 5, but after living with it for several months, I'm knocking it down a point to 4 out of 5. This is down to all the smaller points that weren't quite as good as expected. Finally JVC technical support were very slow to react to my queries, only replying at the 3rd attempt in so many months.

Excellent product. At a great price on Amazon. Was very easy to install, requiring one wiring harness to encorporate my subwoofer. Has all the features I was expecting, and more. Great little media console to add to my car :)
