Does the job

I replaced a 3 year old TomTom One with this Garmin 2460LT. The TomTom was okay for a basic satnav, but the maps were getting old and TomTom wanted the cost of a new device to upgrade them.The Garmin 2460 locks onto satellites fast and maintains a strong signal. The 5" screen makes it easy to see and the onscreen maps are very responsive. With the TomTom it took an age to lock on to satellites and maps took too long to update, casing the odd wrong turn whilst navigating in built up areas.Hands-free calling works well with iPhones, but I found the voice instantiated navigation to be very hit and miss. The cradle is really well designed, making it easy to just insert the device and go.As a tip for those who want lifetime map updates it is cheaper to buy the 2460LT + seperate lifetime maps than it is to buy the 2460LMT with the maps included. Just search Amazon for "lifetime maps".

Nice bit of kit

Having read the previous reviews and comparing them to the 3790LT, I plumped for this one. You do not get the higher resolution screen or landscape/portrait option, but you do get more detour options, and a bigger screen.The routing seems pretty good and I'm getting used to the menu (having used Tomtom for years).I had a problem with the first one ordered from Amazon - a line of dead pixels; the service I received from Amazon was truly first class, I received a replacement within 18hrs - how about that for customer service!!!Before I bought this I researched on the web and must of covered about 15 or so reviews - this one came out top of my list, a little over budget but I think that the benefits are worth it.If I lost this one I would buy the same again.

Money well spent

Having read many reviews of various sat-navs available I finally opted for the Nuvi 2460 LT.The map downloading took several hours and I would recommend buyers leave this for a night time task.The screen is not over-sensitive which means large fingers don't accidentally activate the wrong icon.The large screen and voice are both clear and I did appreciate not being told every 10 miles which motorway junction I needed to turnoff, something my daughter's sat-nav does.I think I have yet to make use of the intelligent traffic option but it was one of the reasons I bought this sat-nav.I would recommend the purchase of the friction pad mount which is available for this model.
