The DR-07MKII is a portable, high-quality stereo recorder capturing audio at high resolution up to 96 kHz/24 bit to microSD or microSDHC media. A pair of cardioid condenser microphones handles high sound pressure levels and can be set up in AB or XY orientation for a wide stereo field or extra-clear reproduction with reduced phase displacement between both channels. Users can also use their own microphone or line-level source through the mini-jack stereo input which includes plug-in power for microphones that need it.The DR-07MKII is quick and easy to use with one thumb. Operations like recording, adjusting levels, deleting bad takes and adding marks are only a button press away. Other features like variable speed audition, limiting, low-cut filtering, chromatic tuner and others more can be chosen from the menu. Users may apply one out of six reverb effects to the input or output signal, and an Overdub feature allows recordings to be added to existing audio files. The Peak Reduction feature automatically reduces the level to prevent accidental distortion. It works in rehearsal mode or in record and can be combined with the built-in limiter. There is also a Level Align function that allows to smooth out any sudden volume jumps during playback, and a built-in speaker is provided for quick check-back.Internally, the unit?s digital and analogue circuit boards are built separately to increase noise performance, with a low-impedance design to further decrease hiss. A separate supply voltage is used for the A/D and D/A converter for even better audio performance. The result is clean sound quality with high signal-to-noise ratio, very little distortion and wide frequency response.Two AA batteries can power the recorder for more than 17 hours, even while recording at CD quality. Impressive all-rounder

I bought this recorder principally for radio interview work. Previously I had been using a Zoom H2 which was fine, but I occasionally had some card corruption issues and the microphone arrangements, although versatile, were not always condusive to straight one-to-one interviews in noisy conditions. Also the display on the Zoom H2 is not really very clear.So I turned to the Tascam and I have not been disappointed. It's smaller, but the display is clear and you can adjust the amount of time the backlight is on display. You soon learn to grip it firmly when using it 'hand-held'. Any movement of the fingers is picked up by the mics. However, to be fair this is common in all devices of this type. I feel that the microphones are a bit 'exposed'. A foam wind-muff would not have added much to the price and afforded a little protection. I purchased a suitable one for £4 from a High street retailer. Unfortunately the mic can only be used in the 'crossed' position using this. More versatile 'dead cat' wind muffs are available on the internet specifically for this device. There is no need to pay the outrageous price of a Tascam brand one.My first outing was to a local agricultural show where I recorded a school 'dixie' band playing in the open air. When I played this back through the hi-fi I was astounded by the result (MP3 320kps). It was a 'studio-like' performance. Far better than I imagined.Can't wait to try some other live performances. As an interview mic, it's fine. I agree the speaker output is rather low, but it is sufficient to confirm that you have a recording. Ok using earphones.Amongst other things I like is the intuative menu set-up. Easy to remember and work your way through. The 'quick' option button ensures easy access to functions that you may need in a particular mode. The play-back button is similarly useful once you have learned to scan through the various files. A simple piece of software to interface on your computer would have been useful. Some other manufacturers provide this, but non-the-less running the files on a PC is no problem with the lead provided. There are a lot of facilities to be found on the Tascam that are not available on more expensive products from other manufacturers. A comprehensive manual is provided, in fact there are several 123 page booklets in various languages. No need for inconvenient pdf downloads, although there is one available.Delivery was with-in 24 hours as claimed. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

I bought this recorder to record myself practicing my Northumbrian Smallpipes so that I could hear how well I'm playing. With only a small amount of fiddling to get the right levels set, I found that I could record myself and get pretty decent results ([...] if you really care!). Much more satisfactory than using the mic attached to my computer, and handily portable for those times when my wife encourages me to practice my pipes in the garage.

I use this to record rehearsals for two bands, one acoustic country and blues and one louder rock one. Even quite low resolution mp3s come out with good definition of the bass end and very clear recordings generally. Very easy to use and a good manual which I only had to read once, skimming over most of it. The only bit I haven't used so far is the overdub function but I'd do that on on the computer usually. The batteries seem to last a long time too. The menus aren't too deep and it doesn't take long to find your way around. Remembering to press record twice took a while to get used to and the thing is a bit plasticky but the recordings so far are very high quality and miles better than the iPhone we were using before.
