Excellent camcorder
By Clivenick58
For the price and size i was very sceptical as to picture quality. I used it first time on a ship at night and i was well surprised at the quality of video footage from the time it was turned on. The ease of use is as good as you have 2 choices from the touch screen or press button. From having tapes and bulky camcorders to having something that fits in the pocket and HD as standard all i can say this is an excellent all round camcorder.

Compact and easy to use
By G. Lewis
Great little hand held device. Very simple to use. Video quality excellent. The only drawback is there is no internal memory. Had to purchase two expensive SD cards which made the price less competitive. In hindsight, I would have gone for the next model up with the built-in memory.

Nice Picture Quality
By N. Wallace
I bought this camera last year, so held off writing a review until I'd given it a decent amount of use.The picture quality is very good and looks nice and sharp on a 42" television. That goes for indoors as well. I don't see how some other folk can say that the picture quality is bad, unless they've not set the camera to film in full HD on a fine setting. I've had a bit of trouble with the autofocus at night, but then again, I've had that trouble with any camera with autofocus when trying to take footage of anything at night. Manual focus would be nice for this. The 40x zoom is great fun indeed and just right for capturing things like nature shots. I filled the screen with a shot of a woodpecker, which was about 200ft away. Again though, a manual option would be good, as sometimes it's a bit too fast. You can press the button gently to zoom slowly, but it can then suddenly whiz in or out at speed and ruin what you were aiming for.The still camera seems to be about 6MP and is quite grainy, especially with darker shots. Zooming in on something also causes grain which shouldn't happen with an optical zoom. The display and icons on the LCD screen are clear and easy to use, even by someone like me with bigger fingers. It's the same with the controls on the back which I have no trouble with. I tend to use both hands for extra stability even though the anti-shake smooths everything off.My only complaints with this camera are the lack of separate charger (as you have to charge the batteries whilst in the camera) and the price of the batteries. My old Hitachi camera came with a proper charger and a remote control. I could also buy suitable long life batteries for under £20, as any make worked with the camera. With JVC, you have to fork out £70-£90 for a separate charger with an equivalent JVC battery costing £60-£80! Any own brand battery works by plugging into the mains socket on the side of the camera itself, as JVC have fixed their cameras to only work with their batteries. (Much like how printer manufactures rig their printers to accept only official ink cartridges, until someone bypasses the security for the cheap ink makers.) These own brand batteries have mostly have bad reviews for reliability, so you're better sticking with the extortionate JVC ones.Next time I want a camcorder, I'll check out the prices for the batteries first. That's why this camera is only getting 4 stars.
