Warn your neighbours!

I own a Bar 1, and agree it has improved the sound significantly of my flat panel TV. My main criticism though is that the sub-woofer if uncontrollable, and at it's lowest setting 'shouts' at inappropriate times. A good example of this is the lead-in to articles on BBC News, or where bass driven title music is used. If I lived without neighbours, perhaps I could recommend it more...!

Terrible sound quality on BBC News and Sky News

Not sure about M. Ali's evaluation of 'crystal clear sound' in his recent review. I bought a Roth Bar 1 expecting it to crystalise the often muffled sound broadcast from the news channels. I was terribly disappointed. I thought the sound quality was awful and returned it for a full refund. The newsreaders' voices on the news channels are extremely muffled much of the time, sounding like they are talking from under a duvet! I expected the Roth Bar 1 to have compensated for this somewhat. I am guessing other reviews are based on the sound when playing a DVD or Blu-Ray movie which will always be far crisper in sound quality than the narrator's voice on the news channel.To be a little bit fair, the poor sound quality is the fault of the broadcaster. The Roth Bar 1 is reproducing the sound quite accurately, so if you feed it with sound that cuts off above 5khz, that's what it will reproduce, no more or no less, but that doesn't help me!PS - I now have a Sharp HTSB250 which is half the price and twice as better sounding. Granted, it's slightly artificial sounding in nature, but news readers' voices are a lot clearer to understand.
