IS IT WORTH THE UPGRADE?

If you already own a Nintendo DS, DSi or DS XL, is this 3DS worth the upgrade? Maybe not but I would highly recommend it for first time buyers over the other versions. I will provide a short list of good vs bad:1. The 3D effects were not similar to a good 3D movie, things did not fly out at me but there was more depth to images. Viewing 3D games was cool but after 1 hour of use, it gave me a slight headache. As a mom I was concerned about the warning that the Nintendo 3DS is not suitable for anyone under the age of 6. Hmmmm. Luckily, there is a sliding scale for 3D viewing and it can be turned off completely. Turning this 3DS into the usual 2D version seems like a waste, but it's nice to have the option. Also, if you move your head or console, the 3D effect is lost - still, it is ground breaking technology and subsequent versions can only improve the 3DS.2. There are not a lot of 3D games available but the great thing about Nintendo is that it's compatible with older game versions. This is a big plus!3. Love the addition of the circular control pad button. In fact, the whole motion control of this Nintendo has been tightened up and made it even more responsive then previous models.4. There are more social features included in this model (Street Pass) that can earn you coins to be used to unlock exclusive content. Since this forum allows for exchanging top scores and the like, I'm okay with my boys using it but I've made sure that they did not use their real names as screen names. Plus, the parental control features on this model, along with all other models, is a great thing.5. You can use the included memory card to store games or use it for digital audio in either MP3 or AAC file formats only. We only use the handheld Nintendo game consoles to play games so we have no use for this function but it's been made available. I wonder if anyone uses this feature? It would be really nice if they included video instead.....6. 3D games suck the life out of the battery quicker then regular games.Overall, I would recommend this for first time Nintendo buyers or those who want the latest tech gadget. I'm not sure it's worth the upgrade but the revolutionary 3D features are pretty cool. I'm hoping later versions will provide even better results.
