Best value CD/Preamp

Been into HIFI for many years and over that time have owned and used many HiFi components. The Audiolab 8200CDQ has replaced a CD player costing 3 times more! The high end HiFi market has become a cottage industry that is sustained by products produced in the hundreds or low thousands. What this player does is bring economies of scale back into the HiFi market place. Have recently listened to CD players costing 20 times more than this and in my opinion they can't compete with the Audiolab. My experience has been they can do certain things very well but as an overall musical package they generally don't perform. Love listening to most types of music and have rediscovered music on CD I had written off. Listened last night to Joe Cocker's Greatest hits, previously I had dismissed this CD as dull and boring, not any more. It brought home to me my musical taste had been dictated by the equipment not the artist. Still listen to Keb Mo, Eric Bibb and Clapton and now much more as well. Also own and use a high end vinyl setup but the gap has been narrowed and now seems to depend on the music and not the equipment.A word of warning though! Found the digital preamp setting gave me a headache whether listening to a CD or an external source connected to a DAC input. Play around with the filter settings but stick to the analogue preamp setting.Happy ListeningRon
