If you have a lot of data to back up a drive from this range is the one to have. It is expensive for the capacity compared to 2 disk systems but it offers several advantages over them. I bought it to replace a WD MyBook Studio which is a RAID 0, two drive system, connected via an eSATA link which took 12 hours to back up 1.2TB of image files (97,000). The DriveStation has four disks in RAID 5 mode and is connected over a USB3 link. I reconfigured the drive to RAID 0 and backup now takes less than 4 hours! If you have been using a single or twin drive backup system, as I have, you will not have had RAID 5 available anyway. RAID 5 is only useful if you have 'mission critical' data that cannot be recovered from anywhere else. The RAID 5 allows the data to be recovered if a drive fails however, backing up is slower and reduces backup space by about 25%The speed advantage was not immediately apparent because I missed 3 important points:1. The USB 3 cable supplied is only 1m long so I used an extension cable which turned out to be a standard USB 2 - all USB cables are not the same!2. My PC did not indicate which of the USB ports were USB 3 and I had to refer to the motherboard manual - USB 2 is 10x slower! (USB 2 took 22 hours!)3. RAID 5 was not needed so the DriveStation was reconfigured to RAID 0 in about 10 minutes using the supplied software - although there is no error recovery in this mode, it is much faster and you don't lose 25% of the drive space.
