- Built on the same features as the SR60i, but the SR80i utilizes a 4 conductor connecting cable and the diaphragms are put through a special 'de-stressing' process in order to enhance inner detail, the result of which gives a more open stage. The new SR80i has an upgraded driver design, and they have enlarged and improved the mass distribution in the plastic housing. The way the SR80i's new driver and plastic housing move air and react to sound vibrations are now less affected by transient distortions.

An award-winning headphone worthy of its crown
By richard
These headphones provide outstanding audio quality at a surprisingly modest price. In sonic performance per £, they are virtually unbeatable. Indeed, if you are serious about listening to music, almost any cheaper headphone is a false economy. These ''on-ear'' headphones are comfortable to wear despite not being the lightest models around, and provide distinctly superior sound to any but the most exotic ''in-ear'' models. They are designed for home listening and would be too cumbersome for jogging and the like. Their rather old-fashioned styling best suit sitting in a semi-darkened room. Another peculiarity of these headphones is that they do leak sound, so you would be very unpopular if you used them on a train. That characteristic also means that one can hear incoming sounds which may or may not be an advantage. On balance, I like to be able to hear the bell or telephone, but if a high degree of sound insulation is what you require these 'phones are not for you.As for that elusive question of sound quality, these 'phones provide a full, almost beefy, sound despite being balanced, airy and relatively uncoloured. For those listening to classical music, some might prefer a slightly cooler, more analytical, sound but the the Grados are good all-rounders and flatter less that top quality music sources as well as being a match for high fidelity ones. The extension cable is a good heavy duty one so there is no obvious impairment of audio quality when in use. When wearing headphones, one always seems to need extension cable unless carrying the music source around.
