Nice idea but not cost effective
By A R Hartley
I love the idea of printing top quality photos from the home, I've been doing this for some time with my epson photo printer which does a great job at a decent cost when compared to places that do them for you. The phototube reminds me of the Polaroid pogo printer, it does a decent job and looks great but is let down by the fact the cartridge is pricey! I got 250 photos printed at Asda for about £7 but this thing costs over £10 for a 36 print cartridge and is the same quality. The build quality of this is nice, solid and sturdy and actually compliments the apple range in its design. In some ways its frustrating that HTC and other brands move their usb port to different sides of the phone and not just at the bottom of it as a dock section would have been great for other phones too, but like my HTC One S the charging port is on the side of the phone! But this is no fault of the photocube. All in all the biggest flaw of this is the price per print, it just doesnt add up when compared to what is on offer from local photo stores or photo printers that are a bit more affordable. I think if you really love gadgets and dont mind the cost then this is a good buy to sit next to your apple gear, despite it supporting other phones it looks better along side an iPad or iPhone.

Good printer for apple or android phones!
By Another Weasley
I have used this with my iPhone 4 and it works perfectly. All you need to do is download the free app from the app store and then follow the steps and it prints your picture - it really could not be simpler! I think it will be the same for android phones although I cannot comment on that. The android phones seem to connect via a usb cable whereas the iPhones dock on the top of the printer. You have to make sure that the iPhone is securely in the dock as once I didn't and the printer only printed half of the image (my fault - not the printer!).This has been developed as a phone printer; I would have liked the option to also print images from cameras or a computer! However, I have found a way around this. Take a picture with your camera, upload it to your computer as normal and then email it to yourself, access the email on your phone, save the picture and print! It sounds like a hassle but it is actually pretty easy. However, the printer will only accept images that are maximum 3mb in size, so you might need to alter the images before you send them via email if they are from a fancy high resolution camera!Overall image quality is good, the pictures are a good size at 4" x 6" (unlike some of the smaller printers), however you do have to be aware of this when sending a picture from a phone as sometimes it looks better on the screen than when it is increased in size on paper! This should not be an issue for more up to date phones that this printer supports though as generally cameras on phones are quite good these days! It is quick and takes about a minute to print an image, it seems to do it in layers with yellow first and then red, then your picture starts to resemble its true colours before a final finish (it goes in and out the printer 4 times and you have to be careful not to touch it!).The print cartridge contains both the paper and the ink (whatever it uses to make the image) so you don't need to buy lots of different things, just the cartridge. The 36 print cartridge is currently retailing for between £20 and £25 which means a 55p - 69p per print. My main concern would be price and availability of these print cartridges. It is quite expensive and if the manufacturer suddenly decides to stop producing the print cartridges then you are stuck with an essentially useless printer. For this reason, I have to remove a star from the overall rating of this product. This is a fun printer to print your images from a phone. However there are other options out there. Recently I bought the Polaroid PoGo Digital Photo Printer with Zero Ink (Zink) Technology to use as a fun printer to print pictures I have taken on my camera/phone (although I found out after that it doesnt work with iPhones) or my friends phones. To compare the two:Photocube- Small, desktop printer- 4" x 6" photos- Works with iPhones and android devices but needs an app to work- More of a printer to print holiday snaps- Needs a print cartridge (36 print cartridge for between £20 and £25)PoGo- Portable printer (size of a camera)- Small (2" x 3") photos but can be used as sticker due to peelable adhesive back- Works with Bluetooth devices, or cameras with Pictbridge (However, does not work with iPhones)- Printer for parties and fun little images!- Uses Inkless paper (variety of different sizes of packs available for different prices, including 30 pack for about £6)I would recommend both. The Photocube can be used as a desktop printer to print decent quality images from your phone, it is frustrating that you can't print directly from a camera or computer but this was never designed as a camera printer it is a printer for phones/ipods etc. The PoGo is portable more for fun and can be used with Bluetooth devices or pictbridge cameras but it cannot be used with iPhones - so annoying!!There are better printers out there for cameras, or you can always take them to a shop and get them printed professionally. In terms of a printer for phones then I think the Photocube is pretty good! I give it 4 out of 5 stars, unfortunately the cost and the availability (both now and in the future) of the printer cartridge lets it down.

Very handy
By Ms. M. Cheung
The Photocube is very compact, and it is extremely easy to use - plug it in, scan the QR code on the manual with your phone to get the free app, and then use the app to choose the photo(s) that you want to print and insert the phone in the stand on top of the printer. (It's an iPod/iPhone socket on top, I think Android phones and iPads use the separate USB socket at the side).Really simple to operate, with a big sticker on the front warning you not to grab the photo as it goes in and out 4 times before it's completed. Each colour is printed separately, so you can see the yellow, red and blue layers being added on as it prints. It prints quite quickly, and the quality is actually better than some shops that I could mention.I docked one star because of the costs. The printer itself is quite pricey, but as it's a one-off cost that's forgiveable. The replacement cartridge costs £22.50 (£21.38 on Amazon) for 36 photos - the cartridge contains all the inks and paper so you can't do it on the cheap and put your own paper in, for example. So it works out at about 60p per photo, which I think is quite expensive.Having said that, it is really convenient to choose your own photos, plug your phone into the printer and get them printed out straight away. If it wasn't for the cost of the cartridge I would definitely be printing a lot more photos...
