5Stunning
By Jake H0YT
First of all, I have to say the picture needs a little configuring but is noticeably better than other pictures from televisions around the £1000k mark. There are certain drawbacks, edge LED means if you have the brightness turned right up then there is some slight unevenness to the lighting during certain scenes, but as I mentioned if you tweak the picture this becomes unnoticeable. Again, there is slight banding during some panning scenes but again this can all but be eliminated with the picture settings and is a downside of edge lit LED when compared to say Plasma. However, you do a get 55" screen and a considerably lighter TV for the same size as a 50/51" Plasma so I guess it's what's more important to you. Also, the thin bezel means it takes up less space than you'd think (124cm x 79cm) so if you're in doubt whether it's too big measure up your space as you may be surprised how small the actual frame is.On Blu Ray discs the picture is stunning, and on 3D discs again I was massively impressed - I didn't buy it for 3D and was very sceptical of the format, but having watched the Wimbledon final and a couple of 3D Blu Rays I've definitely warmed to it. The standard def upscaling is good, some channels better than others and the Freeview HD channels all look excellent. There is also a game mode for playing xbox/ps3 which reduces the gaming delay although I have to say I didn't really notice it when playing without it.This is the same panel as the D8000, but is a couple of hundred pounds cheaper - the frame isn't quite as good looking but there's not much in it. Throw in Internet access via Wi-Fi (no dongle needed), a truly excellent Smart Hub system for navigating content and downloading apps as well as a generous list of inputs and you have a television which definitely justifies the price tag.

4Stunning tv set
By Anna D
Purchased this tv locally due to delivery problems to the Channel Islands. The tv is a marvel to look at and a stunning design, The set will require the picture to be callibrated (overlookers .com) tried these settings and worked well.Once done the picture is exellent in standerd and Simpily mind blowing wIth really true like pictures ( no exaggeration ) in Hi definition and Blue Ray.I also have a Samsung le 46 750 about 18 months old which has a very good picture but this tv is a notch up.There is a slight bleeding of white light at the corners, but this only really evident in really dark or near black scenes. My only gripe with the tv is the screen is very reflective indeed,if you have a window that will be behind you and opposite to the tv i would imagine you will have problems, if your room as a lot of natural light i dont think this set would be for you.Web browsing is ok but can be slow, a quarty keyboard remote control would have been a nice touch, but does not come supplied.Samsung market this set as a Smart tv, dont confuse this with a Smart phone, because this does not even come close, you can do most of the things just seems a tad long winded the majority of the apps available i dont think will be ever used by myself or the family only time will tell, it's after all tv not a Pc. Cant comment on the 3d as i did not buy the set for this purpose. On the whole in my opinion is with out doubt the best led set on the market today, not cheap but you do get what you pay for,a simply stunning piece of kit for your hard earned cash.Would i go out and buy this set? ( which i have because i needed a tv) no, if you can wait until March or April when Samsung will bring out thier 1212 models which will see a further price drop.

5Samsung LED UE55D7000 Vs Panasonic Plasma Viera TX-P50GT30B
By MacBal
I had a Sony LCD (KDL-L32MRX1) for more than 7 years which died on the Christmas eve and so I bought a Panasonic Plasma 50" GT30 Panasonic Smart VIERA TX-P50GT30B 50-inch Full HD 1080p 3D 600Hz Internet-Ready Plasma TV with Freeview HD and Freesat HD (Installation Recommended)as it came with a good bundle - Panasonic Blue Ray BT210, 5yr warranty, 2 3D glasses and Avatar 3D blue ray. But, I had to exchange it for Samsung LED Samsung UE55D7000 55 -inch LCD 1080 pixels 800 Hz TVas I could not stand the fan noise. There are no direct comparission between these 2 models which are the top TVs of 2011. Hope this helps if you are not sure which one to buy.Design and Build quality:Panasonic TVs have come a long way in design department. But, Samsung LED is a delight to the eyes. With only 5mm bezel and glass frame, you get pictures almost from edge to edge which gives you the illusion (especially in the night) that the pictures are floating in air. It is so light and occupies lesser space compared to 50" Plasma and so ideal for fixing on the wall. The late D8000 models have a still smaller frame. Build quality is good for both the TVs.Video:I am not going to talk about which is better as it comes down to personal choice. Panasonic's default Picture settings are very good. Very good to view action scenes with no lag at all. Picture mode has extra settings like THX, Photo and Professional which you can calibrate. Samsung's default Picture settings are not that good but once you tune to your taste, the picture quality is mind blowing. It has 4 picture modes - Dynamic, Standard, Natural and Movie. All the modes are customisable. In the Natural mode you have advanced settings to reduce the juddering, clouding etc., Movie mode is fully calibratable (RGB settings etc.,) and you can get these settings by just googling. These customisations are to individual sources, meaning you have different settings of same mode (e.g:Natural)for your TV or Blue ray or games or USB etc.,3D:Both TVs do very good upscaling of 2D to 3D. Watching BBC nature documentaries in 3D and even photos and home video in 3D is amazing. Avatar is the bench mark to test the 3D of your television. Samsung has loads of free 3D content in its app. Pansonics glasses use Infra red technology while Samsung uses blutooth which is better as you wont loose connection when you move your head away from TV and it automatically switches off if there is no 3D feed.Audio:The inbuilt speakers are good to watch normal TV programmes on both the TVs. But, I would recommend watching HD programmes and movies with your home theatre system. It is amazing how Samsung managed to put such decent speakers in a TV which has same thickness as that of your laptop!Internet:Panasonic GT30 does not have inbuilt wi-fi but it is wi-fi ready meaning you need to buy a USB dongle. The internet connection on Panasonic was a bit temperamental and was not connecting to the internet all the time (I connected mine with ethernet). Samsung has inbuilt wi-fi and picked up the wi-fi straight away. If your router has a WPS push button, then you dont even need to enter your key. The smart Hub is much more advanced than Panasonic. You have a full browser (but cant watch videos as it does not have flash player). More apps are available than Panasonic. A 3D app is available where you could see lots of free short 3D films in the following categories: Kids, Music, Sports, Trailers, Documentaries etc., Other usual apps are Love Film (not available in Panasonic), You tube, Picassa, Twitter, FB etc., Only demand TV available on both the TVs is BBC iPlayer.Streaming:I use Sony Play Station Media Server (free beta version) to stream movies, pictures and music from my Mac Book to my Samsung. (I dont even have a PS). The UI is not that good, but it does the job without having to connect with cables. Panasonic gives the option to stream via Twonkey media server from Windows PC. I did not try it.Negatives:Panasonic Plasmas have an awful fan noise. You could get loads of information on this on the net and it is present in GT30 and VT30 models. It is a shame as no professional review mentions about this. I went to a local show room where they had a 55" VT30 Vieira in a sound proof room and I was able to recognise the noise immediately when the TV was switched on. I was able to hear it all the time at my home and it was annoying. It was like watching the TV with a projector. I would strongly recommend anyone buying this plasma to visit a sound proof room or one of your friends who have this TV before buying. You cannot appreciate this noise in the showrooms.Samsung LED does not have any noise at all. Edge LEDs like Samsung have the bleeding/clouding issues but you notice it only when the TV is completely dark (waiting for the feed) at night time. I hardly notice it when watching dark scenes in movies in the blue ray. But you can adjust the settings to reduce this bleed. I feel watching the actions scenes are slightly better with plasma. Dont get carried away with 800hz rates as this does not mean anything. In LED you still get some lag in the motion but again you could adjust the settings to please your eyes. Mine has the juddering (shaking) as mentioned in this forum and it happens once in half an hour or so and lasts for a fraction of second. You wont even notice it unless you know about it. Again you can adjust the settings to reduce juddering.I retained my Panasonic BT 210 which works beautifully with the Samsung. Once you load the disc, the TV automatically picks up the source and you could control the Panasonic BD with Samsung TV remote as it supports 'Any net'. Once you change the source, Panasonic BD goes back to standby. Conclusion: Both are good TVs but Samsung LED will cost you at least 50% more. Fan noise is really awful with Panasonic plasma. Samsung is good in the design, video quality, internet, streaming and compatibility with other devices. You could get more info on the Samsung TV on Amazon's US Site.
