3Good but better alternatives available in range
By Iqbal Mohammed
This is a very good BD player compared to the last one I had (Panasonic BD60). I recommend this if the two drawbacks I mention below are not a concern to you.The picture and output are simply amazing. And to link this to a Viera Cast TV makes it extremely easy to use. For example, turning on the TV will load the player and automatically set it to outputting the TV's surround sound signal. Conversely, pressing play on the player will load the movie and automatically turn on the TV to the BD player input!!These are the best aspects of this particular player:--fast loading and function (c.f. many players on the market)-low energy consumption-amazing sound, rich and deep, with considerable customization-wide-ranging options to configure picture, colour and quality of picture/sound-works a treat with Viera cast-Slim and light; sleek finish-iPod port which allows you to access playlists etc from the player (compatible with iPhone 4!), this will save on an iPod dock-beautiful menus and UIDownsides:For £80 more you can buy the PANASONIC BT350 (NOT 3D) or the BTT370. Why are they better? They do not have the following drawbacks.-One HDMI port only. This is a massive problem if you want to use your PS3 etc for surround sound. As it happens I only wanted to use SKY HD and oddly Sky does NOT output the 5.1 signal through HDMI but through SPDIF so I am not worse off (the only reason I kept the player) but if you want more than just Sky then you will find this very difficult indeed.-No bypass. Basically, you MUST have the player on to use the surround sound. This is a huge hassle. This is ameliorated by using a Viera cast TV as I said, they turn each other on, saving on remote control usage, but clearly it's less energy efficient and a bit annoying. Again, for me this gripe was not sufficient to return the thing but I would have thought about it more had I known clearly.I have set this up as HDMI (ARC) to my TV and SPDIF to Sky which allows both Sky programmes and movies to be enjoyed in surround sound.

4A cracking piece of kit.
By Jon
Excellent picture, handles movement well, great sound.2 drawbacks, only 1 extra input (optical cable), so no good for sky AND a games console, unless you have buy an adaptor. Not a big deal to me, but will be deciding factor for many. The biggest issue for me is the dreaded layer change on sd dvds, the pause is back (though very brief), and as yet there is no firmware to eradicate this problem.I've no doubt it will be sorted in the near future, but it was disappointing when I realised.BD performance however is superb!

4Good BUT!!
By Vidman
This review is of my second unit as the first was faulty from new - would not play Blu Ray discs without on screen noise and corruption.Once set up this unit provides significantly better sound than our new Panasonic 3D TV as standard. But setting it up to suit takes time as there are many options for setting type of sound generated, from standard Stereo to various Dolby simulations and the effects vary from programme to programme and TV channel to TV channel. Once set though the ARC system which runs the TV sound through the unit is worth the price alone.Issues include that to set rear speakers volume you actually have to adjust the front speakers volume, if you want the back speakers quieter then turn up the fronts and lower the overall volume control - not exactly intuitive. If you use the unit to access the internet or your local network then it looses the ARC settings from your TV so you have to reset the unit again to provide ARC for the TV sound, when this first happened this was not obvious so caused some concern.Playing Blu Ray, standard or 3D gives a great picture and standard DVDs look better played through this than via a DVD player thanks to the upscaling.Overall very pleased but the manual is poor and the setup procedure is neither easy nor intuitive.LASTLY: and this caused my much frustration and concern - most units will need updating to the latest software, this can only be done by connecting the unit directly to your home LAN as there is currently no download available from Panasonics Web Site (which would enable it to be burnt to DVD and loaded into the unit that way). Once connect to the internet the unit will automatically find the update and ask to be updated. PLEASE NOTE that this update downloads quickly but takes 30-45 minutes to then run and the unit does NOT restart upon completion as it says in the manual. The TV screen will go blank after the update is started and the units front display will show various messages and eventually simply turn off. IThe manual states that it is critical that you do not interrupt the update process or the unit will be turned into a brick - so be very patient. When the update is complete and the unit has switched itself off simply power it back on and fingers crossed it will be OK - though it will need setting up again from scratch.Verdict: Good price and performance once you have got it set to your liking. manual is poor and web help nonexistent. Would only recommend this to someone with a current model Panasonic TV as that is the only way to get all the benefits it offers, some features are not available for TVs over 15 months old as the interface changed for the current models.
