SUBMIT TO THE ICE QUEEN OF SOUND.

I previously reviewed the iMT800 Altec Lansing iMT800 Mix A Powerful Boom Box for iPod and iPhone: a demon of a machine that has never failed me. Now comes the iMT810 a slight update of its predecessor. The technical specification (as follows) remains similar to the original and in a side by side comparison test the sound is equal.Class D AmplifierHighs - Dual 1 inch horn loaded polypropylene tweetersMids - Dual 3 inch mid range driversLows - 5 1/4 inch side-firing subwoofer and 5 1/4 inch passive radiatorIR Remote ControlCapacity for 8 x D cell batteries giving up to 24 hours of playing timeOnboard 7-band graphic equalizerOnboard EQ presets2 x Auxiliary inputs for two extra devices to connectWorks with all iPod and iPhone modelsThe only changes I have noticed is that the digital display is now glowing with a cold blue light, making this boom box the ice queen to the 800's demonic orange read-out and continuing the theme the finishing is now in chic silver rather than gold. When running the dock with an iPhone 4 the volume control and interactivity of the iPhone remains live whereas before it would be run solely through the volume control on the Altec - a simple adjustment that gives it greater versatility.As for the sound, it is amazing!!!Some other reviewers have described the brute force of the Altec as lacking the finesse required for anything other than the heaviest of music but they are quite simply wrong. You simply need to know how to adjust 7 channel the graphic equaliser. If you work with just the bass and treble alone, then yes it will only really do Metal & Dance rhythms justice but by pressing and holding the EQ button along with either "skip track" button you access the alternate set up. You can then store up to 4 EQ presets. This is an earth shattering monster capable of shaking your windows and floors but it can deliver the crispest of vocal tones and the clarity required of higher end spectrum notes if you take a small moment to work with it rather than against it.As with the 800 the clip belt remote returns - but it needn't be lost and can be accommodated in the built in holder in the top of the dock. A delight to use on all fronts you will be hard pressed to fault the machine and if anything the only down side is that for price then FM receiver could be stronger or replaced with DAB. But who cares - if you are buying this, then you are serious sound freak who cares about being able to play your music in the best possible way and is looking for a serious piece of kit to dock your portable player into (be that iPhone, iPod, MP3 player or anything with headphone socket).Tempted? I dare you to dance with this Ice Queen of Sound; submit to her sound and never look back!!
