These special aluminium bodied GU10 LED Bulbs use 20 special Super-bright 5050 LED's to emit the same equivalent of light as a regular 50 - 60w Halogen bulb. Excellent but could be issues

Absolutely brilliant, for a long time I've been looking for low energy MR18 bulbs and at last I found some that actually do deliver a similar level of light to the expensive to run halogen alternative. Can't recommend too highly. The only warning is that when I first installed the bulbs thy didn't work. The problem was that as they use so little current / power, the low voltage transformers didn't recognise that the bulbs were connected and the bulbs flashed once and then stayed off. I changed the transformer to an older version that I had from other low voltage lighting and connected all my lights to just one transformer and all working great.

Do not buy these LEDs

I have now begun replacing all the bulbs in my house; not because I'm some pretentious eco warrior, it's simple economics: fight energy price hikes by using less energy, and since I have upwards of two hundred in the house it is likely that I'll see a change in the electricity bill. But like many, I have a quite a number of 12v halogens that need replacing, and since they are in the highest consumption area - the kitchen - it's crucial to get it right. I replaced all eight 50W halogen kitchen down lighters, plus two in the cooker hood with these replacement MR16s. They were noticeably dimmer, flickered constantly even after 'warming up'; one bulb died after only an hour, and bizarrely, I cannot use my DAB radio because the lights interfere with the signal (I thought my brilliant Roberts radio had expired).I am in the process of returning these LEDs, having been up the stepladders again to replace all the halogens, (still smarting from the ticking off I had from my wife - quite right too - but calling me 'Scrooge' was a bit much), good thing I didn't bin the old ones. I will probably have to go up and spend a day in the loft ripping out the transformers and fitting GU10 connectors to accommodate 240v LEDs. The best replacements by far are Long Life Lamp Company GU10 5 Watt Super Bright LED with New Chip Technology, Warm White 50w replacements; I've used these in the bathroom, the office, the laundry and will now use them to replace the kitchen lights. They are excellent, cheap and if they last as long as the claims made for them - ideal replacements. Just read the reviews.So don't buy the MR16 12v, they are not only unfit for the job, expensive and disruptive but they will damage your hard won domestic peace.Oh, there's also a nasty sting in the tail from this company, if you do order these lights and like me find that they don't work - you will have to stump up for the postage to return them. I think the Scrooge who thought that one up should be made to sit in a dimly lit office forever!Because we are forced to suggest 'how many stars' in order to publish the reviews that most of us take care and time to do, I suggest that Amazon adopt a system of minus stars for suppliers like these (or better still, actually test the products they list) - in which case I would award a minus star of 4 - at least they eventually arrived, but then so do bad weather and old age.So my one star is actually a minus four - take note Amazon - oh, and PAY UK TAX like we all have to!

These new generation leds are a good alternative to halogen. 320 lumens is quite bright and the light is almost as warm as a halogen. But most importantly they last 50,000 hours and, at 4 watts, cost 90% less to run. Seriously, what are you waiting for....?
