4BenQ W1200 Projector Review
By Michael Ellis
Early review of BenQ W1200 - DLP Projector - 1800 ANSI lumens - 1920 x 1080 - widescreen - High Definition 1080pI have just purchased and BenQ W1200 project from Amazon. I have found the project has excellent picture quality in terms of detail and colour. It is fairly quiet, easy to setup and I had no problem with ceiling mounting it with this bracket PROJECTOR CEILING MOUNT BRACKET UNIVERSAL UP TO 10KG UK (just need to purchase 4 M4 screws as the ones supplied were too long for the projector to accomodate)However, whilst this may be good projector I have found a serious problem with video delay. When I present a synchronised video/audio stream via HDMI to the W1200, I observer there to be approximately 200 to 300ms of delay in the video channel. This means wholly unacceptable lip-sync probelms using the BenQ W1200 internal speakers (so what are they for then?).As a test, plugging the same source into my flat screen TV shows no observable lip-sync issues. The problem is always there irrespective of any video processing options being on or off, although switching on frame interpolation may marginally exacerbate the problem.I have since contacted BenQ and they advise that I send back the projector for a firmware upgrade, however they are unable to tell me what the maximum delay in the video channel can be.HERE IS THE RUBIf the BenQ W1200 does have a video delay in excess of 200ms, it means that many AV receivers will not have insufficient audio delay to compensate! For instance Marantz NR1602, NR1402, NR1401,NR1601, Dennon Cara all have maximum audio delays of 200ms!As yet I have not purchased an AV receiver, but you can see why this delay information is critical to my choice of AV receiver. I consider it unfortunate that this information is not in the W1200's technical specification. I consider it reprehensible that the information cannot be provided when asked for!My W1200 is running version firmware 1.0.2 I understand the current version in 1.0.4 but again BenQ decline to tell me what has changed!Overall, not a happy bunny! If the firmware updates improves the situation, I'll update this review!=== Update 24-AUG-2011 ===I have just received my W1200 back from BenQ having had the firmware updated to 1.04. As far as I am able to tell, there remains a delay of between 200ms and 300ms. BenQ do not publish the maximum delay that can be expected nor are able to confirm this in emails to me. Make sure that the AV amplifier you are intending to use is capable of adding sufficient audio delay before considering this projector.=== Update 21-DEC-2011 ===In the end I purchased the Pioneer VSX-921 AV amplifier as this offers upto 360ms lip sync delay. With this combination the results are great.

4My First Projector
By Jim
As this has been my first experience of creating a home cinema I don't have anything to compare it too, however my first impressions are that it gives off an amazing picture when projected onto a black widow painted screen. the only downside to it as far as I'm concerned is that there is no lens shift and therefore I have to have it at a slightly funny angle on my ceiling, it's a minor issue though and I think it could be fixed by moving the projector further away from the screen.
