5Impressed so far
By Mr. B. S. Nandra
So i bought the hard drive as a time machine backup for my mac, and portable file transfer device. First thoughts are WOW THIS IS SMALL! I mean, its really small, i'll put some pictures up so you can see just how small the HDD really is.In this case, size docent seem to matter, as I plugged the hard drive and my mac instantly recognised the drive, and asked me If i would like to set up time machine. I clicked yes, OSX said are you sure as all data will be erased to partition it correctly, clicked yes and it started doing its thing. No problems setting it up.So file transfer speed, well it copied 200GB in around 3 Hours, and for music files, it copied 10.48GB in about 10 minutes, very good transfer rates for such a small hard drive I reckon.Heat wise, its very good. It seems to stay a a nice constant temperature, even when it is in use, it is always a tiny tiny TINY bit warm.Noise wise, i can't even hear it, even when in use, its extremely quiet. When touched, you can feel a weak, constant vibration when its on, thats the disk spinning.Aesthetically wise, its stylish, beautiful, small, light, sophisticated. It has a tiny blue LED next to the USB connector which is solid when not in use and flashing when it is. It also has 4 very small rubber grips at the bottom to prevent it slipping and to absorb and reduce vibration. If you didn't know, this device is self powered via usb, meaning there's no need for external plugs. This may make some people skeptical to buying it, but hard drives that need external power are much louder because they need fans to constantly cool them as the disks spin so fast. Another nifty feature is when you eject the drives the drive turns off, saving power.Overall, so far I'm really pleased with this hard drive and I think I will be throughout its life, which should hopefully be for a long time :) I hope this review will help you in your decision, buying a hard drive can be very confusing as there are so many different things to take into account. If your looking for something compact, fast, quiet, eco efficient, then this is a good choice.EDIT: I did some data transfer tests and the results are (USB 2.0):1GB: Write: 26.4mb - Read: - 35.1mb2GB: Write: 27.6mb - Read: - 34.9mb3GB: Write: 26.7mb - Read: - 35.1mb4GB: Write: 27.8mb - Read: - 35.3mb5GB: Write: 27.7mb - Read: - 35.2mbAs you can see, they are pretty consistent, and are of decent performance. And just to clear some things up, the 3.0 model IS backwards compatible, if you look at the pictures, you see USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, however, if you do not have a USB 3.0 port, you won't notice any speed difference at all. (P.S, I got the 2.0 model from amazon at 79.99)

5Great storage device
By Johnny
Bought this yesterday and so far am happy with it. PC recognised it without issues. No need to format or install any software. Already transferred 90 GB onto it. Reasonable transfer rate, about the same as any external hard drive. Lightweight. No need for a power supply unit, you just plug it in your usb drive and you're ready to go. Perfect for backing up important files.I'll report back if any issues should arise.I've got 3 of these now and they're all still going strong as of the 8th of January, 2012.

5Superb bit of kit!
By Daddio
I was looking for another USB 3.0 backup drive and had reservations about getting another WD My Passport SE. WD My Passport Essential SE 1 TB Black Portable Hard Drive (USB 3.0/2.0) Specifically, that I was unhappy with the Western Digital installed drive-lock security system. Firstly, I have no need for security on the drive and tried to disable the feature. Although the instructions say you can disable the security, it always switched itself back on again. Worse still, on my second PC, the WD My Passport drive often failed to respond to the password and I had to connect it back to the main PC to re-initialise it. After doing this about twenty times I decided to try another make for my next purchase.I spent several hours trawling the net and looking at dozens of reviews before deciding to give Samsung a try this time. The Samsung M2 arrived a couple of days after I placed the order and I couldn't be happier... Samsung M2 Portable 3.0 HX-M101TAB - Hard drive - 1 TB - external - 2.5" - SuperSpeed USB - brown black The drive arrived in perfect condition and I couldn't wait to test it out.At first it wasn't recognised on my USB 3.0 hub, but I breathed a sigh of relief when I realised the USB lead had to be pushed home into the drive with a bit more pressure than I'm used to (at least it won't fall out!). Joy of joys, I was able to confirm the lack of any drive-lock security feature (heaven!!). The drive was recognised without the need to install any extra drivers (I'm using Windows 7 64-bit) and it was ready for some comparisons with the WD My Passport.I copied over four very large files (combined total 20.0 GB) to the Samsung & WD. The Samsung finished in 3 mins 48 secs (averaging 87.8 Mb/sec), the WD finished in 4 mins 21 secs (averaging 76.6 Mb/sec). I ran the test twice to check the results. The Samsung was the clear winner here. Then I tried copying over 2,400 small files (combined total 23.3GB). This result went the other way, with the WD taking 18 mins 16 secs compared to the Samsung at 19 mins 11 secs. They are both excellent drives and completely silent, but my personal choice has to be the Samsung, as I mainly copy over large video files. In fact, I like it so much I've ordered another one, (the WD will be relegated to the cupboard under the stairs!).Sorry if this review is a bit long but I hope you find it useful...
