A decent motherboard.
By Mr Shh.
My four year old ASUS crossfire motherboard recently died. After a bit of research I decided to buy this motherboard along with an Intel i5 2500k to replace my AMD dual core processor.I had never installed a motherboard before, only sound and graphics cards and additional RAM. I managed to install the board easily enough into my old PC case but unfortunately my heatsink would not fit the board so I have used the stock Intel fan until I can buy another heatsink in order to overclock the i5. (Why won't they make these things with universal brackets?)I was very happy with the 4GBs of DDR2 RAM that I was using on my old motherboard but unfortunately this board only accommodates DDR3 so I upgraded to 8GB of DDR3. Bear in mind that it only has two RAM slots so if you are thinking of getting 4GB with the option of adding extra in future you are probably better off buying 8GB now otherwise you will have to replace the smaller sticks when you do. The 8GB does zing though. If you have never installed a motherboard then you will need to make sure you pay close attention to the manual but even so I have not got the power LED light working yet or the front fan case or the little speaker that makes the bleep noise when you turn your PC on. This probably says more about me than the motherboard but just something to bear in mind if you are a newbie to this sort of thing. Everything else is up and running fine though. The board comes with a nice software suit that you can use to configure your board's BIOS and perform the overclocking process. The software is clearly laid out and easy to use. Once I get my new heatsink then I will overclock the processor and update this review. My only gripe is that every now and then when I turn on the PC it hangs at the ASUS screen and doesn't open Windows. I don't know why this is but I have to reset the machine and then it works fine.I've also noticed that the board has a second graphics card boost socket but the way it is positioned you would not be able to slot an additional card in easily without dislodging some of the other cables. My sound card would not fit either and I now use the onboard sound.Overall I'm happy with the card but I don't think all the sockets are positioned as well as they could be so I rate it at four stars.

Excellent value board for most applications
By M Stoneham
I purchased this board to use as the basis for a freeNAS system. For this purpose it is almost perfect as it has excellent level of SATA connectivity for the price. It also supports Intel integrated graphics which is perfect for situations such as mine where a discreet GPU is unnecessary. Connectivity is excellent in this regard. It will only take 8GB (2x4GB) RAM which is adequate for an 8TB NAS system but might hamper future upgrades for different user, although the BIOS will supposedly support 16GB once 8GB sticks become available. What does let it down is the apparent lack of Wake On LAN functionality in the BIOS. Yes the EFI BIOS is all warm-and-cuddly (i.e designed to be less intimidating) compared with the usual offerings but if it comes at the expense of functionality then I'd rather have a standard one.One other thing that isn't a problem but caught me out is the lack of an IDE channel on the board which meant had to buy a SATA DVD drive to do my freeNAS install rather than using a spare IDE one I had in the cupboard. Not a big deal at all, but worth considering if you were planning on re-using parts from another system.

Great mobo! Chipset runs hot !!!
By VanDamn
This motherboard has everything you need in a micro atx board. USB 3, PCI Express 3.o ready and 22nm CPU ready. It also has SATA 3 (6gbps). HDMI, DVI, VGA connectors.I have downloaded and installed the latest BIOS and Drivers without problem.VRM chipsets have a heatsink, but unfortunately they still run hot at 91-93 degrees celcius on idle, but run colder when the cpu is stressed because the cpu cooler spins higher which in turn blows air to the surrounding parts like the VRMs. The southbridge chipset also runs hot at 93 deg celcius. The important (to me) on board HDMI and DVI are also present which is not always there on cheaper micro atx H61 motherboards.I have had 4 ASUS boards and had no boot issues. The motherboards run as they should including the P8H61-M Pro.Overall, I'm very satisfied with this board. It's early days though so I will update this review whenever. For now I give it 4 stars !Edit 08/July/2012I am onto my second mobo, as I returned the first one to amazon as I had some weird boot issues. The second board is running fine atm, fingers crossed. The chipset temps are still the same as the previous board it replaced, running at 91-93 at idle. Overall I am very satisfied with this board.
