Superb little server

This is probably the best network drive I have ever bought. It takes a while to get to grips with (a few weeks in my case) owing to the wide amount of different configurations available. I'm using this to store documents and backups from 3 different PC's so everything is in one place accessible by all. All my music, films and photo's are also on the 'multimedia' side of the Qnap which lets you view and play via the 'Twonky Media' server which is also inbuilt. Handy if you have a TV or iphone which can access the network. Downloading torrent files is so easy with it's own built in torrent service (QGet) which simply means once you have started the download you can switch off all other computers as this little baby has its own processor. I fitted a 2 TB drive to the Qnap so shouldn't run out of sapce for a very long time.The administration utility is a breeze to operate once you know how to find your way around and options for file management and accesiblity is quite outstanding. You can leave this running 24/7 because power output is a misley 7 to 10 watts.Bear in mind this is an all out 'Server'(if you want it to be) and not just merely another 'network drive' - think of it as a mini stand-alone PC. The Qnap really is an outstanding piece of kit for the price.

I spent quite a while resaerching NAS products before settling on the QNAP that I ordered with a 2Tb drive. It is not the cheapest but the build quality is excellent. Installing the drive was simple and configuration easy.I am using it as a back up device for all the PCs at home, that it does well using the provided software, as well as a general data store for video and photos.One great thing is that I can see it across my WiFi network from my TV and Windows Smartphone and view images that way - I even downloaded a film to test the Torrent capabilities.I would thoroughly recommend QNAP to anybody considering a NAS solution.

Way better than the Buffalo unit it replaced. I needed something that could recover from a power outage (i.e., silly user pulling the wrong plug) for backups to a remote site over a VPN. This does. It's pretty quick with the traffic, user interface looks nice, works well and is much more responsive than my past experiences of Buffalo & WD network disks.Not cheap, but I'd recommend this over the lower-end brands every time now.
