3DEll optilex replacement from Rapid Solutions
By redbaron
I recently purchased a 2nd Hand Dell Optilex 745 with Pentium D945 processor 3.4Ghz. Amongst other more technical reasons, I needed the older model to run specific software we produce. An added complication is that the delivery was to France. However, Amazon's partner company Rapid Solutions could not provide the same processor, and very politely, I have to say, asked if I would accept a better processor, (I have ended up with a Intel® Core(tm)2 Duo Processor E6300 (2M Cache, 1.86 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB). While it wasn't what I had ordered, I accepted, as the price is reasonably modest. Unfortunately the PC arrived with a fan problem. But it booted once into Windows 7. When I spoke to them about it, they thought it was the battery, and sent a new battery. I also purchased a 1.5TB disk from them, again price dependent. The new items arrive. I reboot the PC with the new battery, and now it won't go into Windows, and then blue screens. Something I haven't seen for years. I tried everything reasonable, but the PC would not go into Windows on either disk supplied. Now they were again very helpful and polite. I ended up shipping a mid sized desktop back to them at an extra cost ( they would have paid if the delivery was UK), and they returned a small format desktop PC ( although when I returned the original PC, I did write to them saying I would prefer a Tower), with I believe a slightly lower powered processor. On the plus side, the original PC casing was not in great condition. The panel catch had been snapped off and so on, but the new PC looks like reasonable second hand quality, and it does boot. All the above took nearly 4 weeks to resolve. So what issues do I have with Rapid Solutions? Well, I think their packaging could be more sturdy. The original PC and 1.5 TB disk I received were not well packed, and the items had burst through. The original PC had a problem on first boot, and then failed completely. Usually this would come up in pre-delivery inspections. As I say, though, Rapid Solutions are helpful, don't argue about issues, and as IT company's go, do seem to be trying to satisfy their customer i.e. me. The problem is, I don't feel satisfied. I think the PC is "not like new", and is different from what I requested. would I buy from them again? Yes, I probably would, but I would want the PC and everything detailed in writing, and it would have to be delivered to the UK.

4i am glad idecided to buy
By kevin
i decided to upgrade from an older dell 3000 which i had used for 8 years which was ok to use as it did about everything i needed. However when istarted to use the optiplex 745 from amazon at only £100.00 or so it became obvious my old machine was only half as speedy and the price of the upgrade for what im now getting was peanuts and im so glad i made the long overdue change.
